Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz wins RSE Thomas Reid Medal The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is delighted to congratulate Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz, Reader in Archaeology, on winning the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Thomas Reid Medal 2021 (Early-Career Prize in Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences). Archaeological field school in the heart of Edinburgh A brand new field school offers archaeological training in Edinburgh's Holyrood Park. SHCA Archaeological Science Internships 2021 Two archaeological science internships are available to undergraduate archaeology students for summer 2021. Earliest known animal carvings in Scotland discovered Scotland’s Rock Art Project, including staff from the School of History, Classics and Archaeology, examined the carvings to confirm their authenticity. Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz awarded Leverhulme Research Project Grant The School was very pleased to hear that Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz has been awarded a 3-year Leverhulme Research Project Grant. Double success for Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz Two successes for the School's Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz - a Royal Society of Edinburgh grant and election to the Global Young Academy. Fields of Conflict Conference Information on the Fields of Conflict Conference postponed from September 2020. Award for archaeology student The School was delighted to hear that Synnøve Gravdal Heimvik has won this year's Association for Environmental Archaeology (AEA) John Evans Dissertation Prize for best undergraduate dissertation. Archaeology department success in the Moray Endowment Fund The School was delighted to learn that five archaeological research projects have just been awarded funding from the University of Edinburgh Moray Endowment Fund. New book on the detailed survey of one the most famous shipwrecks in the world The results of a shipwreck survey project directed by Dr Jon Henderson of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology were published this week. Staff appointed to Young Academy of Scotland Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz has been appointed as a new member of the Young Academy of Scotland (YAS), with his term starting in January 2021 for a period of five years. New President of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland The School was delighted to learn that former Head of School Ian Ralston has been electedv President of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. British Academy grant success for archaeology projects Manuel Fernández-Götz and Joanne Rowland and have been awarded two British Academy/Leverhulme grants for projects in Scotland and Egypt respectively. PhD Student Success The School was delighted to learn that PhD candidate Matteo Randazzo has been awarded the Macmillan-Rodewald Studentship. New publication from Dr Linda Fibiger The School was delighted to hear about an important new publication co-edited by Dr Linda Fibiger, Senior Lecturer in Human Osteoarchaeology. Dr Guillaume Robin receives British Academy/ Leverhulme Grant The School is delighted to share that Dr Guillaume Robin has been awarded a British Academy/Leverhulme Grant to support ongoing excavations at Ossi in Sardinia. New Online MSc launches A new online programme in Archaeology and Classics has recently been launched – MSc in Ancient Worlds. Exploring Macedonia In August and September students from the School of History, Classics and Archaeology took part in an 11-day fieldtrip to explore the multiple pasts of Macedonia. Dr Ben Russell amongst Leverhulme Prize winners The School of History, Classics and Archaeology was delighted to learn that Dr Ben Russell has been named as a winner of a 2019 Philip Leverhulme Prize. School students win at Edinburgh Awards A number of students from the School of History, Classics and Archaeology recently received their Edinburgh Awards at a ceremony. Dr Lindsey Buster reveals ‘Mystic Britain’ A new series on the Smithsonian Channel explores the secrets of the UK’s most mysterious sites, and features Dr Lindsey Büster, Teaching Fellow in European Iron Age Archaeology at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. Carnegie Vacation Scholarship Successes Three Carnegie Vacation Scholarships have been awarded to students within the School.
