The School offers an American History seminar and workshop series, as well as round table events and a reading group.

The ArchSoc Archaeology seminars provide an opportunity for discussion of current research developments on a range of archaeological themes from diverse chronological and geographical areas. The seminars are open to all.

The Centre for Late Antique, Islamic and Byzantine Studies seminar series combines CLAIBS-sponsored events and the Byzantine Studies Research seminar with select sessions of the Classics; Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies; Islam and Muslim-Christian Relations; History of Christianity; and History of Art Research seminars. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Centre for the Study of Modern and Contemporary History runs a regular seminar series with invited speakers.

The Classics research seminars provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and the promotion of new research and debate among the research community, both within and outside the University. All are welcome. 

The Classics Postgraduate seminars enable postgraduate students to gain valuable experience and practice in delivering research papers and taking questions on their work.

The Histories of Gender and Sexuality seminar series runs regularly throughout the academic year. Seminars are open to all.

This research group organises occasional seminars and other events on the history of science, medicine and technology. 

The History and Games Lab explores games as a medium for historical research, teaching and public understanding of history, including fostering practical collaborations between historians, game designers, and other practitioners who engage with games.

Seminars usually take place on Mondays, and everyone is welcome. Please see below for details of venues and timings.

The Late Antique and Medieval Postgraduate Society seminar series offers postgraduate students from Edinburgh and beyond and open forum to present their research, be it complete papers or works-in-progress, to an interdisciplinary audience of peers working with the fields of late antique and medieval studies. We encourage the attendance of anyone who is interested in these fields, irrespective of level of study or membership of the University.

This seminar series seeks to explore key themes in Modern Greek Studies through a global, interdisciplinary, and self-reflexive lens. Providing a forum for scholars coming from different disciplines and working in the field (broadly conceived), it aims to situate the Greek experience within broader transnational contexts, interrogate established narratives, and foster critical dialogue across disciplines. The seminar series is open to all.

The Modern Irish History research seminars take place throughout the academic year and are open to all.

The events take place throughout Semester 1 and Semester 2 of each academic year. Please contact the Research Group Convenors (see below) to be added to our mailing list for updates on our event schedule and upcoming seminars.

You are warmly invited to join the Postgraduate Prehistory Reading Group — an informal, interdisciplinary forum for discussing all aspects of global prehistory.

The Scottish History research seminars provide an opportunity for discussion of current research developments on a range of themes relating to Scottish history across a broad chronological period, from early medieval to modern. Seminars take place throughout the academic year and are open to all.

This seminar series draws on primary and secondary sources to examine structures and techniques of argument, persuasion, and rhetoric in early Chinese and Greek texts in comparative perspective through a range of topics across several disciplines. We will also discuss the methodology of comparison.
