Research and impact

The school of History, Classics and Archaeology is one of the largest groups of researchers in these fields in the UK.

Our research spans millennia, from early humans to the present day, and is global in scope. It has significant impact beyond the university; we work with government, NGOs, cultural organisations, the creative industries, community groups and schools to develop and share evidence-based approaches to the past.

Our diverse and energetic research culture covers many periods, areas, themes and approaches that unite the subjects of Archaeology, Classics and History.

The School hosts five research centres.
