Commentary on Sidonius Letters book 5 Image Giulia Marolla, Sidonius: Letters, Book 5, Part 1. Text, Translation and Commentary. Edinburgh Studies in Later Latin Literature (Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press, 2023). While not part of the original Leverhulme-funded network, Giulia Marolla’s groundbreaking commentary on the first 10 letters of book five strives towards the same goal of comprehensive coverage of all of Sidonius’ works. It was written and published with support from the Edinburgh Sidonius Project. She is currently working on the second volume from her base at the University of Bari. Works in Progress Within the original Network, the commentaries of Tiziana Brolli (Padua) on the Panegyric of Majorian and Luciana Furbetta (Rome) on the Panegyric of Avitus are close to complete and translated and will be published in the coming years. Partly inspired by the network, a number of commentaries on other works of Sidonius are currently in progress; some will be published with the support of the continuing Edinburgh Sidonius Project. Currently underway are projects on the second half of book 5 of the letters and on books 6, 8, and 9, as well as on the Panegyric of Anthemius, and the shorter poems. Within the next few years, therefore, the aim that all of Sidonius’ works should have a modern commentary will be achieved. Joop van Waarden, Co-Investigator of the network, is completing an edition of selected letters of Sidonius for the Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics.
