Mentoring

Our students have benefited from a mentoring programme, which matches current students with past graduates from the School.

The School offers a Mentoring Programme for 2nd and 3rd year students across the School.  This programme matches students to a mentor who is employed with a background of History, Classics or Archaeology.  Mentors may work in different sectors to which they studied, and this will be useful to students who want to explore their options and get a greater understanding of how to use their degree in the graduate job market.

Students have the opportunity to chat to their mentor about their career journey and experiences and gain a really honest insight into the area that they are looking to work in.  Their mentor may be able to suggest ways to develop their skills and experiences and give some inspiration about their future career path! Meetings can take place in person, or over Skype or the telephone. Every graduate who volunteers as a mentor receives formal training and - in our experience - is incredibly generous with their time.

Having the space and freedom to talk about my career aspirations with an alumni in my field of interest has made the job-hunting process seem so much less impossible. I have loved being a participant of the History mentoring project because it has hugely boosted my career confidence and given me the patience to take each career step as it.
