The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is delighted to welcome visiting scholars. Academics, scholars and researchers may apply to visit the School for a period of 1 to 12 months, whether for a short research visit or for an extended stay during sabbatical leave from their own universities or employers. The applicant should have a specific research reason to be in Edinburgh, either because of materials available in the University library or elsewhere in the city, or because of a research link with a current member of the School’s staff.Applications are welcome from scholars in any field of History, Classics and Archaeology although preference may be given to applicants whose research is related to expertise in the School. Scholars may be at all stages of their academic careers, including early career researchers and more senior staff. Students wishing to visit Edinburgh, however, should apply through the Visiting Research Students Programme.Visiting Research StudentsCurrent Visiting ScholarsVisiting Scholar Home InstitutionHCA Academic Sponsor Start Date for Visit End Date for Visit Dr Rui LiGuangdong University of Finance & EconomicsProfessor Thomas Ahnert30 December 202329 December 2024Dr Helena López Gómez Universidad de Vigo Dr Sandra Bingham1 March 202431 December 2024Dr Samuel Nión ÁlvarezInstitute of Heritage Sciences (Incipit) - Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)Professor Manuel Fernández-Götz 19 March 202431 December 2024Dr Wang YanJiangSu Provincial Academy of Social Science Professor Niels Gaul26 April 202419 April 2025Professor Steven Isaac Longwood UniversityDr Bill Aird12 September 20245 January 2025Dr Lisa EberleUniversity of TuebingenProfessor Gavin Kelly1 October 202430 September 2025Dr Philipp HöhnMartin-Luther-University Halle-WittenbergDr Mike Carr1 October 202430 September 2025Dr María Isabel Moreno-PadillaUniversity Research Institute for Iberian Archaeology, University of JaénProfessor Manuel Fernández-Götz1 November 202431 January 2025How to ApplyIndividuals wishing to be considered as a Visiting Scholar must have the agreement of a current academic member of staff within the School to act as their academic sponsor for the duration of their time at the School.Applicants should make contact with their sponsor by email to arrange this before making the formal application.
