The 6th annual Joint Cambridge-Edinburgh ECR Conference on Modern Irish History took place 28-29th January, hosted by the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. Image The joint series of conferences was established in 2016 to provide a forum for researchers working on modern Irish history to share ideas, engage with cutting-edge research and interact with peers. Over twenty people participated in this year's online event including graduate students, post-docs and academic staff with fascinating presentations on all aspects of the history of modern Ireland, ranging from the religious dimensions of the Orange Order to the Irish in nineteenth-century China. The Consul General of Ireland in Scotland, Ms Jane McCulloch, addressed the event, and indicated how important the advanced study of Irish history is to fostering good relations between Ireland and UK. Many of the distinguished alumni of both groups joined the event and contributed to the wide-ranging discussions which concluded with a roundtable discussion about future directions in the writing of modern Irish history involving Professor Eugenio Biagini (Cambridge), Dr Sophie Cooper (Leicester), Dr Niamh Gallagher (Cambridge) and Professor Enda Delaney (Edinburgh).
