The Royal Society of Edinburgh has awarded funding to Professor Nuala Zahedieh for 'The Matter of Slavery in Scotland' project in collaboration with Dr Sarah Laurenson, National Museum of Scotland (published 14 December 2017).

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is delighted to congratulate Dr Mirko Canevaro, Chancellor’s Fellow in Classics, on winning the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Thomas Reid Medal 2017, with the award of the Early-Career Prize in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Doorway 4 will be closed from 8 April to 10 September 2017 due to major works in the Meadows Lecture Theatre. Entry to the School is via the Chrystal MacMillan Building, George Square.

Recently, a group of PhD students went on academic retreat to the Burn in Angus to explore practical solutions to the challenges of PhD study. (Published 23 March, 2017)

Dr Tanja Romankiewicz has been trialling sustainable building based on ancient lives in Almere, the Netherlands, as part of the 2017 Dutch National Archaeology Days. (Published 26 October, 2017)

The Dorothy Dunnett History Prize 2017, worth £1,000, is offered by the Dorothy Dunnett Society (Scottish Charity SC030649 SCIO). The Prize is for an essay of up to 5000 words.
