LAMPS 4th Annual Conference: Transformation The Late Antique and Medieval Postgraduate Society (LAMPS) at the University of Edinburgh is hosting a one-day conference on the theme of Transformation in written media, visual art, and material culture from the Late Antique to the start of the Early Modern period. This conference seeks to further our understanding of the ‘Long Middle Ages’ as a time of continuous change. It invites us to explore how this spirit of transformation is reflected in the content and creation of literature, art, culture, social structures, and physical spaces. It also aims to strengthen interdisciplinary connections within and outside of the University of Edinburgh, including but not limited to the fields of Archaeology, History, Classics, History of Art, Literature, Language Studies, Islamic Studies, and Theology. Professor Elizabeth Archibald of Durham University will be the keynote speaker, presenting on ‘How to enjoy bathing: from the classical world to the end of the Middle Ages’. The conference will include a workshop on palimpsests and the re-use of objects led by the University of Edinburgh’s Dr Halle O’Neal of the Edinburgh College of Art. This optional workshop will be hosted by the Centre for Research Collections. The full conference programme can be found on the LAMPS website. Registration includes coffee, lunch, and a wine reception. There will be vegetarian and vegan options available.
