MSc Classics student Alexandre Johnston has won a coveted Carnegie Scholarship. The Carnegie-Caledonian scheme supports a limited number of graduates, with first class Honours degrees from Scottish universities, to pursue three years of postgraduate research leading to a PhD. Last year, Alexandre achieved a first class Honours degree in Classics here at the School. He will use the award to stay on after his MSc, to read for a PhD under the supervision of Professor Douglas Cairns. His topic will be Pindar, an influential lyric poet from Thebes in Ancient Greece.
