As the British Empire was mobilised to fight, it had far reaching consequences for all of those involved; the political, social, and economic transformations created new relationships, shifting loyalties and divisions, opening up new possibilities and closing them down. These tensions affected both the metropole and the Empire, soldiers and civilians, men and women. By approaching the Second World War from the perspective of the British Empire, we hope to deepen our understandings of the war’s dynamics, impacts, and legacies. We are delighted to be joined by leading experts in the field: Tarak Barkawi, Rachel Chin, Ashley Jackson and Yasmin Khan.

The RSE-funded Second World War Studies Network (Scotland) aims to facilitate the discussion and exchange of ideas on the theme of the Second World War.
