Charles Mackie - Father of History at University of Edinburgh

In 1719 Charles Mackie was appointed to a Chair of Universal History and Greek and Roman Antiquities at the University of Edinburgh. His influence on the teaching of History at Edinburgh in the eighteenth century was considerable, as was his legacy, including former students such as William Robertson. 

A panel discussion will be convened by Professor Ewen Cameron, Sir William Fraser Professor of Scottish History and Palaeography and Head of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. He will be joined by three Edinburgh University Colleagues:
