Inaugural Symposium: Modern Greek Studies at Edinburgh

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is delighted to mark the inauguration of its new focus in Modern Greek Studies with a half-day symposium.

The symposium features a round table discussion of the current challenges and the future perspectives of Modern Greek Studies, including their prospects and development here at Edinburgh. Participants include Professor Sir Roderick Beaton (King’s College London); Professor Karen Emmerich (Princeton University); Professor Sakis Gekas (York University, Toronto); Professor Paschalis Kitromilides (Academy of Athens); Professor Marc Lauxtermann (University of Oxford); Dr Michalis Sotiropoulos (University of Edinburgh), and Dr Katerina Stergiopoulou (University of Edinburgh).

The round table will be followed by a reception (6-7.45pm) including a musical interlude by '40 Χρόνια Πρόβες – 40 Years of Rehearsals' and the launch of the recent volume in the Edinburgh Leventis Studies series, 'The Greek Revolution of 1821: European Contexts, Scottish Connections', edited by Roderick Beaton and Niels Gaul (2024).

This new focus in Modern Greek Studies has been made possible by generous support from the A. G. Leventis Foundation. Everyone welcome!
