European Day of Languages

The 26 September is European Day of Languages, proclaimed by the Council of Europe to highlight the importance of language learning, diversity and the range of languages learned, to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding, to promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe and to encourage lifelong language learning.

To mark the European Day of Languages (26 September), we are celebrating the multilingualism of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology (HCA) community through the recent books of HCA researchers published in a language that is not English. The publication of research by members of our community, in journal articles and book chapters among other outlets, in a language that is not English, takes place frequently, but the electronic display on the ground floor of our building features the following books:

  • Silvia Böcking and Felix Böcking, eds., Die Tagebücher der Hildegard von Erffa, 1889–1901: Ein preußisches adliges Frauenleben im späten 19. Jahrhundert (Berlin: De Gruyter, 2023)
  • Lucio Bertelli and Mirko Canevaro, Aristotele, La politica, Libro VII–VIII (Rome: “L’Erma” di Bretschneider, 2022)
  • Jill Burke, Cómo ser una mujer del Renacimiento: Mujeres, poder y el Nacimiento del mito de la belleza, translated by Yolanda Fontal Rueda (Barcelona: Critica, 2024)
  • Jill Burke, Jak Być Renesansowa Kobieta: Nieopowiedziana historia piękna i kobiecej kreatywności, translated by Maria Borzobohata-Sawicka (Warsaw: Znak Koncept, 2025)
  • Mirko Canevaro, L’Atene de diritti (Rome: Laterza, 2025)
  • Mirko Canevaro and Cesara Zizza, eds., Aristotele, La Politica: Guida (Rome: “L’Erma” di Bretschneider, 2025)
