Transnational history training workshop

Event details

This workshop will be discussion based, and will focus on the methodological, historiographical, and conceptual challenges of research and writing transnational history, particularly (but not exclusively) in relation to the study of modern Ireland.

The day will involve mini-workshops based around three masterclasses run by Professor David Gleeson (Northumbria), Dr Sarah Roddy (Manchester), and Dr David Sim (University College London), as well as feedback from historians based at the University of Edinburgh including Professor Enda Delaney and Dr Niall Whelehan.

Attend the Transnational Ireland Network

This event will take place the day before a meeting of the Transnational Ireland Network to be hosted by the University of Edinburgh on 27th May. The attendees at our workshop are invited to stay on and participate in this international meeting.

Funding support

We hope that many participants will be able to obtain funding from their home institutions to attend.

To ensure lack of funding does not prevent involvement, we are able to offer accommodation for one night for a number of participants and a modest travel fund to help defray the costs for those who cannot access alternative sources of funding.

Please indicate in your application if you wish to avail of travel funding.

This event is generously funded by the Researcher-Led Initiative Fund, University of Edinburgh.

Apply for funding support

Please send a 250-300 word abstract detailing why you think you would benefit from involvement in this workshop, along with a short C.V., to the organising team by 4pm on Friday 18 March 2016.

We will let successful applicants know in early April.
