Charles Gordon Mackay Lecturers and Seminars

The Charles Gordon Mackay lectureship was established by a legacy from Mrs Millborough Mary Mackay in 1946. It provides for a lecturer to speak on themes relating to Ancient Greek literature, history, philosophy and archaeology.

2026-2027 C.G. Mackay Lecturers

Semester 1

Professor Filippomaria Pontani (Ca’ Foscari, Venice) will be speaking on the following topics: 

  • 'The Odyssey and its Scholia' (Mackay Lecture on 30 September, 5.10pm, Meadows Lecture Theatre)
  • 'The Hellenizing Muse: New Ancient Greek' (Mackay Seminar on 1 October, 1-2.30pm, Seminar Room 1, Chrystal MacMillan Building)

Semester 2

Professor Joshua Billings (Princeton) will be visiting Edinburgh on 8 and 9 March 2027.
